It is absolutely crucial that you maintain your marble in the prescribed way. Marble must be protected from all types of harsh cleaning products, soaps and acidic cooking products. Often time’s people are merely not educated as to just how simple it is to etch marble tiles which can be done by the use of regular shampoos, shaving creams and even acidic food products. Common everyday cooking products such as lemon juice, vinegar and wine can stain and severely etch the lustrous finish. It is not possible to remove marks or blemishes from marble with typical household cleaning products. To care for your marble surfaces, only use gentle stone cleaners, and wipe down the surface often to keep spills and contaminates from staining or etching the lustrous finish.

While sealing your marble may provide a certain level of protection it does not make your marble bullet-proof. Spills and stains can be absorbed by marble since it’s not as dense as granite. Sealing marble will safeguard it from absorbing stains and contaminates.  But sealing marble will not safeguard it from being modified by acidic products. Sealing is not a comprehensive answer to marble etching and dulling but it is helpful. However, sealing still does nothing to keep the stone from getting ruined by scratches. Even with the most stringent care and maintenance plans marble will still lose its shiny and glossy appearance over time. Tiny scratches and blemishes accumulated over time will ruin the lustrous look it had promptly after being installed. In order for marble to keep its shiny finish, it must be kept free from grit and abrasives from outside foot traffic.
